BECOMING A MEMBER

BECOMING A MEMBER

Applying for NCE-membership is possible by sending a complete and comprehensive application to secretariaat@cinemaeditors.nl.

The NCE board discusses membership applications twice a year – in October and May. The deadlines for membership applications are therefore set to October 1st and May 1st. When a membership starts after May 1st, the first full year of membership is extended until September 1st of the next year.

In order to efficiently handle incoming membership applications, we ask that all required documents are bundled into a single pdf file, with your photo attached as a separate jpg or png file.

— APPLYING FOR ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP

Becoming an active member requires at least 60 months of experience as a lead film editor on distinguished long-form film and/or television productions (in segments or episodes of at least 35 minutes). The Board will assess the validity of credits and will investigate the applicant’s professional ethics. The Board is allowed to grant membership to applicants even if they do not meet the requirements.
Active members pay a yearly membership fee of € 200,- and a one-time administrative fee of € 100,-. Active members have two votes each at the General Assembly and are allowed to use the abbreviation ‘NCE’ behind their name on screen credits and printed materials.

When applying for active membership you must send in the following:

  • motivation – why do you want to become a member of the NCE?
  • up-to-date resumé
  • name, address, phone number(s) and bank account number
  • recent picture
  • relevant information about the titles of long-form film and/or television productions that make you qualify for membership (awards, selection for film festivals, commercial success, etc.)

To complete the application, letters of recommendation from two active NCE-members are required. The Board assesses applications based on statutory requirements, but these letters of recommendation weigh in substantially on the Board’s decision.

Letters of recommendation by members need to include a personal motivation, clarifying:

  • that the member is familiar with the most important relevant long-form productions on the applicant’s resumé
  • that the member is familiar with the applicant’s professional work ethic (it is not just a name-based connection)
  • that the member is convinced of the applicant’s interest in sharing knowledge and experience
  • why the member wants to recommend the applicant for NCE-membership

Positive decisions by the Board about new membership are subsequently forwarded to the general membership for approval.

— APPLYING FOR ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP

Applicants for associate membership do not have to meet the criteria for active membership. Associate membership is therefore open for editors and assistant editors or students, but also for film professionals working in fields closely related to film editing (postproduction supervisors, sound designers, VFX-artists, etc.).
Associate members pay a yearly membership fee of € 100,- and a one-time administrative fee of € 50,-. Associate members have one vote each at the General Assembly and are not allowed to use the abbreviation ‘NCE’ behind their name on screen credits and printed materials.

When applying for associate membership you must send in the following:

  • motivation – why do you want to become a member of the NCE?
  • up-to-date resumé
  • name, address, phone number(s) and bank account number
  • recent picture
