NCE MASTERCLASS @ IDFA: ATANAS GEORGIEV
On Saturday, November 23, 2024, the 9th edition of the NCE’s International Masterclass Documentary took place at the Vondelpaviljoen in Amsterdam. As always the event was organized in cooperation with IDFA.
This year, film editor and producer Atanas Georgiev (Macedonia, 1977) was our Guest of Honor. In a sold out venue, moderator Annelotte Medema, NCE spoke with Georgiev about his work on the award-winning documentaries HONEYLAND and HOLLYWOODGATE.
“I just follow the rules,” Georgiev told the audience, as he spoke about how he cuts every film according to the classic three-act structure. Building his films scene by scene, without looking back. Only when the structure is complete, he allows himself to watch the entire film: “Only then you can really see what works and what doesn’t, and where your problems are”.
After the masterclass, NCE members had the opportunity to get together over a drink, and meet with Georgiev in person.
