NCE MASTERCLASS: EDDIE HAMILTON, ACE
On Sunday, September 24, the Blauwe Zaal of the Stadsschouwburg Utrecht was fully packed with editors, film professionals and -students for the Annual International NCE Masterclass on Editing, during – and in collaboration with – the Dutch Film Festival.
For this twelfth edition, we welcomed film editor Eddie Hamilton, ACE, known for his work on major blockbusters such as MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: DEAD RECKONING PT. 1 / FALLOUT / ROGUE NATION (Christopher McQuarrie, 2023 / 2018 / 2015), KICK-ASS (Matthew Vaughn, 2010), KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE / THE SECRET SERVICE (Matthew Vaughn, 2017 & 2014) and TOP GUN: MAVERICK (Joseph Kosinski, 2022), for which he received the 2023 ACE Eddie Award and was nominated for both the Academy Award and BAFTA for Best Editing.
In a conversation with moderator Peter Alderliesten, NCE, Eddie talked about various aspects of the editing profession. In addition to an insight in the course of Eddie’s career, the audience also received a unique peek at his Avid projects. Using various timelines, Eddie provided insight into his editing processes and collaborations with both his team and other disciplines. Also, similarities and differences with smaller-scale films were discussed, giving the audience a detailed idea of what it is like to work on these big, action-packed films.
After the Q&A, the afternoon ended with the usual drinks and bites, where the more than 190 spectators chatted about this successful masterclass.
