NCE MASTERCLASS: YORGOS MAVROPSARIDIS, ACE

Guest of Honor at NCE’s Annual International Masterclass, during – and in collaboration with – the Netherlands Film Festival, in the Blauwe Zaal of the Stadsschouwburg Utrecht on September 22, 2024, was Greek film editor Yorgos Mavropsaridis, ACE, BFE, GFE, best known for his collaborations with director Yorgos Lanthimos on films like DOGTOOTH (2009), THE FAVOURITE (2018) and POOR THINGS (2023).

In a sold out room, filled with film editors, professionals, and students, moderator Peter Alderliesten, NCE spoke with Yorgos about his vision on cinema, how that is reflected in his work, and about the distinctive balance between rigid and free form in the style that Mavropsaridis and Lanthimos have developed together over the years.

Afterwards, the traditional closing mixer in the Escher Foyer saw many of the enthusiastic attendees reflect on this inspiring session.
